Hi …
… I am looking for marshals, groups of marshals and clubs to help out on the 2012 Three Castles Welsh Classic Trial, probably the biggest and best of the Historic Car events held in North Wales, based for the whole event being Llandudno!
This year the event will run from 6th to 9th June 2012.
… My role is Chief Marshal and I hope that members of your club will assist me in running a fantastic event. The brief outline of the route is given below, and I look forward to hearing from you with an indication of how many of your members are willing and able to turn out, and on which day(s). I enclose a form for completion so that I can get an idea of the experience and preferred duties of the people you point in my direction! Alternatively, please e-mail me a summary of people who are willing to assist, together with their availability and preferences – ideally I am looking for groups to run the tests.
… this is the 10th running of the event, and is considered very special – this year the event being extended to four days. The entry list currently shows over 100 and we expect to start with about 120 classic cars.
… a brief summary of the route is as follows:
Day 0 (Tuesday 5th) – scrutineering and practice day – with a short regularity not far from the base in Llandudno along with a practice test at Coleg Llandrillo. Taking part in the practice is not compulsory and no results will be issued!
Day 1 (Wednesday 6th) – run southwards to Port Meirion, then regularity sections down the Llyn Peninsula before short test near Pwllheli. Then back to Port Meirion for the lunch halt before returning northwards and then down to Llanberis for two tests. After a brief rest halt there’s another regularity to take crews to the final test at Caernarvon.
Day 2 (Thursday 7th) – Anglesey day, but starting with a test near Bangor before crossing the Menai Strait. New test before a regularity to take crews to the Anglesey Race Circuit (aka Ty Croes). Afterwards a short regularity on Holy Island before two tests near an airfield and lunch break in the Officer’s Mess! Then a regularity eastwards across the island to another run of the earlier short test and an early finish in Beaumaris.
Day 3 (Friday 8th) – the longest day, starting with a test near Bodelwyddan before a regularity southwards to a Kart Circuit test. Then further south and across to Dolgellau area with a very scenic regularity before lunch in Dolgellau. The afternoon starts with no less than six tests in close proximity where a lot of help is required. After that another scenic run east of Harlech before the popular Stwlan Dam test, then another regularity to take crews back to the Conwy Valley and the final control of the day on Conwy harbour.
Day 4 (Saturday 9th) – we couldn’t run the event without the Orme being used, the day starting with two tests before a regularity eastwards south of Colwyn Bay to a test near St Asaph. Then on towards the coast with a couple of tests near Holywell and then a regularity westwards back to Bodelwyddan and lunch. The afternoon sees crews head back to Llandudno for the finale around the Orme then the champagne finish on Llandudno Promenade.

Please publicise this plea for help amongst your club members – I look forward to hearing from them.
