Well what a cracking evening! A great turnout with wide ranging interests. Discussions took place on Sand Racing at Southport, Aintree History, BMC Formula Juniors masquerading as Coopers, Liverpool Motor Club's involvement with Historic Car Shows and many more.
Thankfully no mention of TABLECLOTHS!

Thankfully we only just skirted round the Aldi/Lidl issue! There was plenty to talk about from Autotests via Autosolo to Club Events. We also discussed Marcos Roll Over Bars and Motor Racing Films. Finally the possible composition of the Liverpool Motor Club Quiz Team proved somewhat of a sticky subject!

Autosolo? Well reader do you know what one is? Sprintman does. It's like an Autotest, but doesn't involve reversing! An AutoSolo consists of all forwards timed tests on a hard surface. Although there are no passengers it's not a memory contest as numbers and markers help you find your way around. Although modified cars are allowed, all competing vehicles have to be road legal and be driven to the event. Competitors are divided into three groups, whilst one group competes, another marshals and the third takes a well-earned rest. This results in an action packed day for all. AutoSolos are relatively new to this country but have a large following in the USA. Intended for your average small family car (wasn't that in an advert for a condom years ago? Or was that buy me & stop one?). What do you reckon? Sould we have an LMC team enter the next one at Blackburn services on the M65? 3rd December.. regs at www.anwcc.org/amsc.pdf No reversing means it ought to be non-damaging on clutches and is suitable for small car based vans too... like Mr Holder's Clio! He's already entered by the way!

Hi folks! So that you can arrange your seasonal calendar don't forget that the last social meeting of 2006 will be at the Unicorn on Monday 11th December. Be there or be square! What, you've never been? You just don't know what you are missing! See our home page for [glow=red,2,300]'how to find the Unicorn'[/glow] (No it's not a Christmas Party Game! It's a rather nice cozy pub just off the M62, that does really great food. So now you know where to go if you want somewhere for a pleasant evening out. Staff are OK too, aren't they Roy?)

Don't forget that it's the last social meeting of the year at the Unicorn next Monday 11th December. If enough people let me know that they will be going, I'll arrange some butties &/or chips to keep out the cold!
How does a FREE hotpot sound? It's arranged for next Monday, everyone welcome, member or not! Just post a note on here so I can gauge how many to cater for. Be there or be left out!!

Final Club Social Meeting of 2006 is tomorrow, Monday 11th December, from 8pm till closing time. Looks like there will be 10-15 people there (judging by emails received) including one or two regulars from the forum.
Did I mention a free hot pot? Of course I did. Will I see any more of you there? Food served at 8.45 - 9pm (ish).
Will you join us?

Super end of year get-together at the Unicorn with a cracking Hot Pot Supper.
The addition of some videos running on the large plasma screen kept everyone entertained whilst converstaions ranged from Autosolo through drag racing to Nissan Micras!
Lidl did get an honourable mention for their superb motor accessories but thankfully no mention of TABLECLOTHS!
See you all in the New Year - Best Wishes for the Holiday season!

Having mastered the technology of video machines (who said they are now defunct?) I hope no one was too bored with the videos at last night's Social gathering! Nice to see you all there! If anyone wants to bring videos or dvds to future meetings let me know and I'll dust of the appropriate machine! Nemesis - cheers all - I'll never slag off Micras again! Anyone wanting a fun day's sport? then I suggest trying an Autosolo - despite the cold weather, it was really fun - and surprising how 'tiring' 60 secs or so (OK John 57!) can be - or is it old age catching up on me? I may have spent too many years on Drag Strips to manage to now get around corners - my excuse & I'm sticking to it! MERRY CHRISTMAS & A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR to you all from Roy & Sue & all at the Unicorn Inn!

A big THANK YOU to Roy & Sue for a great social meeting on Monday. We've had emails from a number of members saying how much they enjoyed the evening. And Roy, the video's were superb, especially the period BTCC stuff. I'd forgotten just how exciting touring cars used to be before everyone started driving Astras or Hondas! The Sierra Cosworth videos were just about acceptable too! (Only joking... there was some rather interesting archive stuff there too). For those of you who were not there, we gave Roy a framed photo of him at Aintree driving a Micra loan car that he'd been given whilst his pick-up was being repaired. He's always slagged off Micra's, but they got their own back against Roy's Clio on the recent AutoSolo. Never mind Roy, try the Cinquecento next time!
