The recent Rally marshal training session at Stockport was excellent & the four LMC members who attended are now fully conversant with timekeeping & also posess a certificate for Fire Fighting & handling extinguishers.
BUT on the principal you can never get enough experience further training sessions are planned.
Note: I have headed this 'Motor Sport Training' as competitors as well as Marshals can benefit from the wealth of imparted knowledge. For instance the guy who took us for the timekeeping session is also the Man who times the Formula One teams at all their practice sessions all over Europe!
DATES: 10th. Feb. Oulton Park Race 9th. March Harewood Speed 1st. June Curborough Speed 9th. Oct. Knutsford Rally
IF (big IF) there was enough interest the club could even arrange for an instructor to make a presentation about a wide range of subjects. But only if the numbers are worthwhile!!!!!
NOTE:
The MSA is now registering Speed Event Marshals so contact clubsec ASAP & we'll tell you how

How do! Couldn't do the training in Stockport as i was paddling/swimming down the canoe slalom course at Teeside (and it was very cold), but i am going to Oulton Park on the 10th of Feb so if anyone else is interested in going/sharing lifts/needs a lift, then let me know! Will hopefully be at the social next week. Still looking forward to the NW stages!

I'll be on the New Comer training course at Oulton Park on Sunday should anyone want a lift! Looks like it could be rather interesting all in all.

went to the Oulton training yesterday, was certainly interesting. I was on the New Comers course and to be honest i think i might have been a little spoiled as i know i've seen all the videos shown (thanks to members here) and much of the discussion that went on i was already aware of. In my mind it was lacking in a few places, but then again i'm not totally new to the game. My only real gripe is the continous drone about the new grading system, it might be important for the regulars to know, but it seemed to get repeated ad infinitum and really doesn't affect me being a newbie. ANd i like have bits of paper to show my progress so the relatively straight forward system suits me Best part of the training : Fire extinguisher practise, anticlimax by the time i squeezed the trigger and incredibly easy, BUT i learned quite a lot on the subject and now see some point to hauling the extinguishers all over aintree Best part of the event : Oulton Park, never been before, and while i've been on a number of tracks (both as spectator and organiser/setterupper) there is something about Oulton that is both very corporate/professional yet very very welcoming, strikes me as quite a spectator friendly (oh i also got there with no directions!). Most important thing i learned : Marshals are all the same, completely mad! I fit in quite well then i guess! Finally, i'll see you Saturday where if there is a fire i have learned to sit tight and do absolutley nothing as there is NO point in getting mucky when someone else will do it
