There seems to be some confusion whether a cat is required for sprints if entering into the road going production class? Some people are saying that yes a cat is required and that the regs changed in January this year and others are saying that a cat isn't required. Can someone clarify this 100% for me please. Thanks.

The MSA is due to introduce new regulations that require a catalyst to be used, I think from 1st Jan 2009, if the vehicle upon which the competition car is based was fitted with a cat in production, and is therefore in theory required to have a cat in order to pass an MOT. Your car would seem to fall into this category.
Now, I'm not sure how this affects cars that were initially produced without a cat, but were subsequently fitted with one during the production run.
Trouble is, I'm sure I've seen the proposed reg in an MSA publication but I'm blowed if I can find it now, nor can I find any reference on the MSA website.
Can anyone else throw any light on this? It looks as though it's going to affect a great many Sprint & Hillclimb cars in the Production Classes.

I've read something similar and wondered how it would effect my car as only the last 6 months of uk destined BX's had a CAT so there difficult to get hold of if the ruling was that is the car had a CAT at anypoint then it must compete with one. Wonder if they will simply makes it compulsory for any car after 1995 when i think the EU CAT ruling made it compulsory on all but a small few cars?
