Hi all. I have just joined this forum & I am enjoying what I am reading. In August I am taking the car to Disneyland Paris for a car show. Saw the ad in The Classic Car word and I was wondering if any one hear is going to it? It would be good to put faces to names. Looks quite good as a social thinggy. www.southquaytravel.com/rally Bob.

In view of the very poor recent attendance at the Social Meetings, we have decided to change our meetings to the 2nd TUESDAY of each month, with effect from the next meeting on Tuesday 12th February. 75% of those who expressed a preference for a meeting night said that they would prefer to meet on another night rather than Mondays, so we'll give it a go.
If numbers don't pick up by summer, we may need to consider dropping the Social Meetings altogether, unless someone can come up with a way of making them more attractive and persuading more folk to come along.
So, the 2013 meetings will be on:- 12th February 12th March, 9th April 14th May, 11th June, 9th July, 13th August, 10th September, 15th October, 12th November, 10th December.
Will you be there? Non members always welcome of course, so bring a friend!!!

hi there ive been in a number of clubs over the years, cars and otherwise! plenty of people like to join a club but not get involved too much, some just like to be offered secondhand parts and insurance discounts or just to get a monthly magazine. some car clubs try to offer too many alternative events, like hillwalking or perfume and make up meetings....to me i would want to meet for car advice and any help with sprinting, im hoping to buy a car to run in standard road class this year and am rusty on current regs.... i did look at coming to meets but its too far out of liverpool for me, especially as its meant to be liverpool motor club......

if you are going to change the venue i would suggest loading all the club members or all the active club members postcodes on a map and seeing where we all live and moving somewhere central for them all but maybe you have done that already and choose cronton !

oh and ask what an ideal club night would involve? to me it would be quiet country pub 15 mins from home with big carpark where we could wander round and look at each others cars and share advice , dont bring a company car tho ! a few nibbles then a guest speaker from somewhere motorsport related or help with tyre pressure monitors/ punctures etc then finish off with some old videos of past events...etc etc

Well, there's three very relevant posts in quick succession! Thanks for your observations.
Finding a central location is incredibly difficult. We have members all over the UK, so if we discount those who live over 30 miles away, we seem to end up with a central location that's heading off somewhere towards Bolton! Now, whilst that would appeal to me as I live just south of Manchester, by no stretch of the imagination would it appeal to anyone living on Merseyside. We originally chose the Unicorn at Cronton because it was run (jointly) by one of our competitors, and it was indeed a nice fairly quiet pub (just about in the countryside) that had a great reputation for its food & drink. Unfortunately, the landlords sold up and whilst the new people haven't changed the pub much, the big telly for showing motorsport films isn't available to us any longer (well not for the low numbers that we attract anyway), the drink is substantially more expensive, and the welcome isn't the same However, we've kept meeting there as it's even quieter than it used to be and situated just off the M62/M57 jct, it is reasonably handy for people coming from the Wirral, West Cheshire, Merseyside & the Manchester direction. And we were getting a reasonable number attending, but since petrol & beer prices went up, numbers have steadily dropped.
Having said that the Pub is 20 minutes from the Pier Head & tunnel, 18 mins from Stanley Park/Anfield, 15 mins from Wavertree, 15 minutes from Aintree (given clear roads and traffic lights on green, of course) so we're not really that far for folk from Liverpool.
But, never say no..... so if anyone can recommend an alternative meeting place within those sort of travelling times, with a suitable atmosphere, let us know.
Finally, I agree with you about one of the the reason for many people joining a motor club - convenience. And I reckon 60-70% of our members have joined the club because we run good events that they want to be associated with, are a friendly bunch, and above all - we are cheap (£10pa membership). Oh, and you'll be pleased to learn that we have absolutely no intentions of setting up a hiking group, or of having perfume meetings!!!!
