“ The Aintree Circuit Club “ Will be running the Aintree “55/55” GP Classic Sprint and Speed Trials for Cars & Motor Cycles On Part of the Original 1955 Grand Prix Circuit in Front of the Main Stands,
On Sunday the 16th May 2010.
[/b][/u] [glow=red,2,300] NEWS FLASH [/glow] [glow=red,2,300] CANCELLATION OF EVENT [/glow] The Aintree Circuit Club regret to announce the cancellation of their Speed Event, planned to take place at Aintree’s Historic Grand Prix Circuit, on Sunday 16th May. Despite extensive promotion and canvassing of the event to Clubs and Competitors, the level of competitive entries received to date is at a disappointing level which the Club felt did not reflect the status and profile of the event. The Club will continue to develop and plan innovative events and concepts in the future, which we believe will maximise Aintree's significant motor sport heritage. Entry fees received to date will be refunded and the Club wish to thank the Aintree Racecourse Company Ltd, The Motor Sports Association, Event Officials and Organisers and Suppliers of Services to the Event, who have been extremely supportive. For further information please contact: John Bailie PR and Marketing Director Aintree Circuit Club Email: jb@aintree.org.uk

Judging by the classes that they are running, they are expecting some rather nice cars in this event. It could be a great spectacle as they pass the old GP start in front of the main stands. More info at www.aintree.org.uk

And here's more from Aintree Circuit Club's latest press release:- "This is your opportunity to get involved with a new motor sport event in the North West.
This exciting and innovative concept will be staged directly in front of the Aintree circuit's fabulous grandstands and directly alongside the world famous Grand National Steeplechase Course.
It's the first time since 1964 that this part of the historic Grand Prix circuit has been use for a competitive car event. 55 years ago, it was also the scene of Stirling Moss's first ever Grand Prix victory, the 1955 British Grand Prix.
The course will be opened by an Aston Martin DB2/4 which took part in Aintree's first ever motor race in 1954, and the Club is hoping several other iconic cars from the circuit's history will take their part in on-track demonstrations.
Neville Hay, one of the world's most respected historic motor sport personalities, will commentate at the event."

I'm at Loton Park doing the commentary - it's a Midland Hillclimb Championship Rd so a lot of our regulars will be there.
