I'm here again, wish i could understand the Blue book better. Roadgoing series production related query.
2 questions sorry
Is it permissible to fit a 'factory optional part' from a later same make & model car?
The part in question is a Roof spoiler. A roof spoiler is fitted as stock but this is an add on part........i have checked 11.4.1 and 11.4.5 of the blue book with regards 'silhouette'
would a different curve on a spoiler affect this?
Regards
Ian

My understanding is that you can fit parts from a later "same model" car to yours as long as that item was fitted as standard to a version of that model or as a manufacturers optional extra for that model, rather than as an aftermarket accessory. However you cannot fit an item from a later model. eg, you can fit parts from a top of the range Mk1 Escort to a lower spec Mk1 Escort, but not parts from a Mk2 Escort to a Mk1.
Now, proving which model they came from becomes difficult, particularly as cars get older! However, if someone queries a part, it is up to the competitor to prove that the part was available from the manufacturer of his (or her) car as a factory fit, or their accessory range, whilst that particular model of car was still in production.
Whether you'd get away with fitting body parts from the current Clio to an early one for example becomes interesting as unlike Ford, Renaults aren't regularly described by a simple "Mk1, Mk2, Mk3" system relating to the car's body style, but presumably use another less straightforward system. Mind you, no doubt I'll be corrected here!
Now, I've probably only confused matters further!

Thanks for the reply,
The spoiler in question was available for the Homologated Rally Car of the same year and was designed to fit the model i have. I can't find an original 'optional extra's' catalogue to confirm this hense why i asked about the later models as these are currently listed as genuine factory options and are the same design :/
