Hey there, Im looking to get into hillclimbing/sprinting and it looks like you guys are my closest club as far as im aware (Im in manchester) so i've popped over for a bit of advice before i dedicate cash to it. What kind of car would you guys suggest for startin out? It'll be trailored to the events (It'll work out cheaper that way for me, im young so its only realistic for me to be able to insure one car - and if that cars wrote off in a motorsport accident im screwed! so trailer and second vehicle is the way ) I was thinking something like a Pug 205, Classic mini or Polo/golf ? I should point out ill also be using it for some trackday fun Hopefully strip it out and put in a rollcage..

Hypnotoad: as a tin-top starter you can not go far wrong with a 205 Peugeot. If you are intent on stripping it down then it would have to run in the Mod Prod class which means you can use slicks and wets. However if you leave it as a Road Going car complete with all the trim etc it would be a useful tool in the two-litre Road Going class. I quiet agree that trailering your car to events is probably the best way to go (don't forget to get trailer insurance to cover you towing to events).
Dependant on your budget you could also look at picking up either a Formula Ford 1600 for a taste of racing car action or you could look at getting a partially completed kit-car (e.g. Westfield) and finish it off to get on track.
Liverpool Motor Club's track days are great fun and any of the above would fit in nicely. You may struggle at other venues if you went the FF1600 route as a lot of Track Day firms will not accept racing cars.
So it is really down to you to firstly identify your budget. Secondly chose a class to run in (Road Going or Mod Prod). Then finally pick yopur car.
Best of luck.
