I'm doing my first sprint and it's at Aintree on the 8th September.
The car i'm using (Honda Integra) is my road car and has all the original interior. I'm trying to find out which class it would be best suited in, although i've done a dozen track days or so this will be my first sprint.
It's currently running 240bhp with some engine mods and also has semi slicks, coilovers and a carbon bonnet. For the car I have and based on my previous track day experience would I be better to go in the standard road going class or modified? If I would be better going in the standard road going class what tyres are recommended for Aintree as i've got some Kumho KU15 tyres but they don't seem that great although they do get some good reviews from the guys in the States.

First, welcome aboard Celox. Second, I assume you have your competition license therefore check out the Blue Book (Page 198 through to 204) where you will see the tyres listed in two sections [1A and 1B]. Third, if the "semi slicks" are in List 1B then it will have to be Mod Prod; the bad news is the Kumho KU15s are also in List 1B so if you don't want to buy new tyres for the event stick with the "semi-slicks". Fourth, check out the Mod Prod regs - Section L 12 on pages 320 to 321 to see what modifications you HAVE to make to the car. Finally ensure you have all the necessary safety gear - helmet/overalls etc. Hope to see you there!

Hi Celox
Question - Has it got a rollcage in it?
I'm 99% certain you have to have one for Modified class - which as sprintman says your current tyres will place you.

Thanks for your replies.
No it hasn't got a rollcage in. I would need to stay on the semi slicks really to avoid added cost so would need to go in the mod prod class, so can anyone confirm if I need a roll cage or not. The interior's all still in if that makes a difference. If I don't need a roll cage then could I remove just the back seats to lose a bit of weight or would I have to have a roll cage fitted then.

Yes a roll cage would be needed. It's either I buy some other tyres or get a roll cage fitted, so i'll have a think which way to go. Thanks you all your help

One last question I promise If I was to put my car in the road going production class can I use coilovers? The car's been visably lowered by about 45-50mm from standard with adjustable top mounts. It says in the blue book that 'suspension configuration must remain standard' so i'm not sure what it means? Thanks

Don't think I saw you, only saw the one parked towards the exit.
How did you get on, what time did you get?

Come off it Jay, your best was only 53.59!!! Well done anyway for a 'sensible approach'; your "Uncle Dennis" will be proud!
