Cracking result for Roy Dawson with a staggering time in the wet! Mind you Emma Williams effort in winning the two litre racing car class was equally impressive. A superb run-off to round off the day and all completed in the usual efficient manner.

& a thousand thanks to the marshalls too - I was feeling really sorry for myself until I thought about their predicament.
BTW I understand that Ty Croes was even worse that day - so much standing & flowing water that they replaced practice with a covoy run done only in road & tow cars & didn't start the real event until we had started prize giving/boozing in the clubhouse.

My walking boots are still wet through!
My camera has dried out although as I only took pics in the practice they all look like powerboats!
The marshals were fantastic! I stood out on the bank at Country Corner for about an hour and i had had enough!
I was particularly glad to get in the commentary box as I was able to get warm once out of the howling gale!
I suspect there will still be a lot of very wet driving overalls and boots hanging up all round the country!
All in all a well run event in the circumstances!

Some more photos courtesy of Very Fast John This Elise is a very suspect Mod Prod! Surely that rear wing is far too high to be eligible? It should really be a Sports Libre!

A few anecdotes:
Howard Parkinson in the Nemesis caught me up in practice - yes he was indeed going almost twice as fast as me. When offered a re-run his reply was "only if I have to".
I hope I'm right in saying that no damage was done on the day - a couple of spinners but it ended happily ever after.
Finally, proof that every cloud has a silver lining: I had planned to go straight from Aintree to Anglesey & sleep in the car. Fearing pneumonia I decided instead to go home first & bung everything, including myself, in the tumble dryer. Upon checking the car over I first found that I had forgotten to put the footbox cover on before Aintree. The bodywork hadn't been off all day & I hadn't noticed. I rather think Chris Mansley might have spotted this on Sunday morning & 'politely requested' I do something about it before running. Second, the car had discarded the water pump drive belt & I hadn't twigged that until I got home either.

I left the event feeling rather disappointed that we had let down our competitors by forgoing our usual extra runs & packing up at 3pm. Then, on Sunday morning whilst trying to mop out the drivers footwell in the car (no, it wasn't leaking - it was all the water that had run off my waterproofs each time I got in) I realised just how wet & cold the marshals must have got. Yes it was the correct decision to end the event after the top 12. On behalf of the organising team, well done marshals. It's too easy to forget just how much of a sacrifice you make so that everyone else can have a few minutes fun!
