Tour Britannia, 7th 8th, & 9th September 2010We are pleased to announce that the 2010 Tour Britannia Rally/Race will be visiting Aintree Racing Circuit as the first stage of the event on Tuesday 7th September. This is likely to be a non-spectator stage. Being a weekday, we are appealing for volunteer marshals to cover the stage. Anyone who is interested in helping at Aintree should register their interest by contacting John Harden on 0161 969 7137, or send him a secure email via the LMC website www.liverpoolmotorclub.com/about/contact-us/ or, of course, you can register your interest by posting a message here. Times have yet to be finalised, but it is anticipated that signing-on will be from 10.30 to 11.30am at Aintree, with the first car arriving just after mid-day and last car at about 14.30pm (all details to be confirmed in due course). Assistance with setting up the venue from 09.00am would also be appreciated. Further details of this highly respected event can be found at www.tourbritannia.com There are several other stages in North West England (mostly Cheshire/Staffs) and North Wales, and marshals will be able to volunteer for several venues, travelling between locations during the 3 days of the event. Further information is available at www.tourbritannia.com/marshals.htm where a registration form is now available.

Aintree's part of the event will consist of a regularity trial for the fist 20 or so cars. The regularity crews will get two runs of our standard sprint course, but will have to travel at a very precise speed in order not to complete the course too quickly, or too slowly. There’ll also be a “stop astride” point that they won’t know about until they start. Sneeky eh? Then the sprint competitors take over. This group will line up at the start line and the driver gets a single familiarisation lap (effectively a practice lap) before lining up to take two attempts (without navigator) to sprint the course at speed. Unlike our normal sprints, rally timing will be used, so when the driver gets the green light, it means the clock has started & he/she needs to go immediately. Being a weekday, many of our regular marshals will be at work, so we shall need a reasonable number of volunteers to marshal the event. Can you help? It looks as though this is turning into quite a serious bit of competition. And just wait until you see some of the cars taking part! See the Tour Britannia website www.tourbritannia.com for details of the cars entered so far. Amazing!!! Will you be there? Signing=on from 10.30am to 11.30am but help will be needed earlier to set up the venue (bales, signs etc). See post #1 for more info.

We've now got about 15 volunteers, half are LMC members and the rest have volunteered via the Tour Britannia website. We can still use more help so, if you can make it, add your name soon!

The Regularity section was like watching grass grow! In fact it was far more entertaining watching all the air traffic overflying Aintree. The "Competition" section (i.e. where they ran as a sprint) wasn't too bad with the Camaro, Ford Mustang, various Porsches & several Escorts made up for the earlier boredom! If they come to Aintree again I might give it a miss!

From the point of view of someone who never got to see the on track action, I was getting up close and personal :oas a time control marshal ( TC1), I had a great time! Some of the machinery that passed thru' was to die for, just look at the entry list. Oh, to be able to sit back & watch
