In September 2008, we will be hosting a round of the Greenpower Electric Car Challenge at Aintree. This is the well established competition for schools to design, build & race an electrically powered lightweight vehicle. Max speeds are only around 40 mph but the enthusiasm of the participants is terrific. See www.greenpower.co.uk/about/ for a taste of what it’s about. We have a choice of 2 dates 10 & 11 Sept 2008. Because of the restrictions at Aintree caused by the Golf facility, they are both mid-week . Although the event will come to us complete with a full organisation team, they will be looking for us to provide some marshals. I know it’s a long way off, and much can change before September, but would you be interested in helping on the day? Unlike our normal events, there will be minimal setting up to do. If you are interested in helping, which day are you more likely to be available? Wednesday 10th September or Thursday 11th September? No commitments at this stage, I’m just trying to find out which of the 2 days we are more likely to be able to staff !

Either day would be OK with me. Currently no other commitments during that week.

I think you guys are suffering from "Alzheimer Light" .................. It comes back to you......................eventually!!! When you have rememberd to go, don't forget the video camera so that we poor mortals, who will be keeping the wheels of industry turning, can see what a fun day we will have missed. I'll tell you what, I'll remind you nearer the time, that's if I remember!! ;D

Think we'd better stop there... or we may be accused of being silly. Who, us? Seriously though, keep watching this thread, as soon as I get more info I'll post it here. In the meantime keep up to date with Greenpower at www.greenpower.co.uk/about/

Looks like we are in business folks. We are just waiting for written confirmation from Aintree, then it's all systems go for the Greenpower Schools Electric Car Challenge at Aintree on Wednesday 10th September 2008.
Thanks everyone who has volunteered to help marshal the event, we shall let you have more info a little nearer the time. If you havent expressed an interest yet, and are likely to be available, do let me know. No obligation at this stage!
We are intending to launch the event to local schools & the education authorities in a short evening presentation in late January. We just need a venue for a few hours to show off one of this years cars (static) and display photos etc. Anyone any other ideas for a venue, preferably with ground floor access?
I'd like to use a room in the stands at Aintree so I'm trying to see if one is available...free! If you have any other ideas, please do let me know.

i doubt i would struggle to get you into the university some where, if not the main university then the guild of students. When you say ground floor access are you considering sufficent room to get the cars in? if thats the case then the guild might be a better option!

Cheers Vanny The cars are quite light (or at least that's the idea!) and one will fit quite nicely an the back of a SWB Transit. You may have seen two of them on the live action track on the Saturday of the Motor Show at Southport. So not a great size then. We are probably only looking to bring a couple of 'em along, plus 30 or 40 visitors I guess.
Looks like it may be early Feb now by the time we get the information process in full swing. I'd certainly be interested in a Uni location if Aintree falls through. Thanks & I'll be in touch.

Once the launch date/venue are sorted post details on this thread and I am sure you will get a few volunteers to help out!

so i dont forget (as i've just had a brilliant idea) the best venue might well be the stanley theatre (in the Guild) double door access from the road and a big enough venue. Let me know an idea on numbers and i might started asking around, could probably link it in with Formula Student and possibly IMechE accreditation (i have to actively promote engineering at all levels), actually this could be a really good thing to get involved with.
I'm righ in thinking the cars where the half easter eggs that battered round the track at blistering pace and absolutley no sound?
