Ian
My understanding is, that as long as you do not change the type, configuration & mounting of suspension from that was originally fitted then changing a Mcpherson strut for adjustable coilover type system would be permitted.

Now the suspension question has been clarified, I've spent the morning in the workshop with my mechanic, Flossie, fitting said front struts etc. see attached photo... Flossie has been working for me for a couple of months now as a mechanic, having came back from the USA after a visit to see her dad - he's a Dodge Ram - she had to find a job as she lost all her savings when the FTSE crashed - she feels she's been fleeced! ;D Attachments:

"There has been, amongst some, a misunderstanding or lack of clarity about the meaning of the existing rule I.80 which reads: The suspension configuration must remain standard.
So it was felt that some form of clarification might be better. Its not a "change" just a clarification of its meaning. Had it been the former it would mean that it would not have been possible to implement this before 2011 (assuming Motor Sports Council accept it in December). The problem is that the key word is "configuration" and what that means. Simply a matter of looking it up in the dictionary; in mine there are two offerings: 1. The arrangement of the parts of something. 2. The external form or outline achieved by such an arrangement. So you have to have what you started with, in type of suspension medium, and it has to look the same. You can uprate it (springs, dampers, bushes) but you can't change where its mountings are. So really the clarification will say this. It won't change anything and it will be too late to get this into the 2010 Blue Book (which is at the printers now)"
Does this change anything?

I believe that this is how the MSA intends to implement it.

Roy, when you eventually get the Cossie going, will your assistant be available to take your place and, whilst grazing the bank, wave flags at passing cars, (he asked sheepishly)?

Yes - she'll help but we've got to finish the car in a 'mint' condition so we don't 'pull the wool' over the scrutineer's eyes!
If we get caught breaking the rules will I get 'baaaa'd' or what are the 'ramifications' - I don't want a 'roasting' from the stewards!
If the car's not ready we'll get to Aintree by 'shanks' pony!
She wanted to know if the 'Leg of Mutton Rally' is still taking place, as she heard that spectators 'flocked' to it!
I'll stop now as i don't want to be 'lambasted' over it or get the 'chop'!

Ok, I give up!!!! I'll quit as "Ewe" are definitely ahead. There's more of this sort of stuff in the "Sounds Funny" section. In the meantime, this forum will now return to Speed Championship matters

Is it correct that my 4 door 14 year old everyday saloon car which runs the kids round, goes shopping has everything fully trimmed and working now has to go into Modified Production with Plastic paneled, plastic windowed, stripped out, slick shod Tin Tops all because my Suspension Strutt top mounts have a spherical bearing .............................surely not

Ian Were these mounts fitted by the manufacturer or available as a option factory fitted part? If so you are OK if not unfortunately you would have to change them back to the original type to be eligible for the roadgoing classes.

My car is a 14 year old Imported car, Suspension available is only aftermarket, the Suspension i upgraded to came with the spherical top mounts with no option for any other. I guess i will have to compete in Modified against 500+bhp stripped out racers

We have had this problem before where an early version of a particular model can only be fitted with the uprated Mk 2 version of a particular part. Maybe there needs to be a clarification by the MSA which would cover 'upgrades' where the only available spares from the manufacturers are effectively changing the 'original suspension configuration'.

Ian, a couple of questions for you ...... 1) is the original suspension unit NOT available through the manufacturer's oulets? 2) you say that you "upgraded to" what is on the car currently, was there an option of a 'replacement' that matched the original specification?
