It was B****Y cold from a drivers point of view too! Great difficulty getting hands warm again after Marshalling for half an hour, & then having to jump in a cold motor & tackle the course. Great fun though!
Just in case anyone's wondering about all the little black cones that you can see lying down in the photos, they've not been knocked over, they are there to show drivers which side of the big red cones to pass. Mind you, you really do have to memorise the course too as you should already have decided where you are going before you see the cones....... isn't that right Roy? !!!!!!

OK, as promised..... more info! Bolton-le-Moors Motor Club is organising an AutoSOLO on Sunday 11th February at Bolton Northbound Services on the M61 (between Horwich & Chorley. The entry list is now open and closes finally on 7th February 2007. Entries will be accepted in order of receipt. The entry fee per competitor is £25 or before 3rd February 2007 a reduced fee of £21. The event is open to members of Bolton-le-Moors MC, & CSMA, BTRDA, Knutsford DMC and AMSC. This means that all those who took part in the previous AutoSOLO at Blackburn are eligible. Regs available at www.anwcc.org/regs-070211.pdf The surface of the M61 car park is not silky smooth concrete like Blackburn, but it is much more open & has fewer obstacles (ie no buildings) close by! Who's up for this?

My entry has just been confirmed for the AutoSOLO at Demon Tweeks at Wrexham on Sunday. Looks like 38 cars entered, including the Micra that beat me last time! I'd better take the tow bar off & try not to knock the Air Con on this time !!! Some interesting machinery out on this one, including a Saab 96 V4 & an Escort 2 litre. Not too sure about the competitiveness of the Mazda 626 & the VW Passat though. Thank goodness the Caterhams & Elises are not in my class! Ah well, it's only for fun.... isn't it?

Is it compulsory for AutoSOLOs to be run on B***dy cold windy days? Great fun was had by all razzing around Demon Tweeks car parks. 38 competitors, 3 different test layouts, 10 runs per competitor during the day. First test was very tight, the second not so, and the third was even more open & very quick. At one point, I glanced at the speedo & saw 35mph, which is really a bit too fast for an autoSOLO, but everyone was pretty sensible. Hmmmmmm, yeh, right! Spectacular performances from the Mk1 Escort, the Caterhams & the Elise. Virtually everything else was front wheel drive. Everyone found the damp surface tricky in the early tests.... getting the power down was difficult and much understeer was evident (even from the RWD cars). As it dried, it gradually became more grippy, and times improved. Only 1 LMC entry this time (me) but a good turnout from Accrington MSC, no doubt due to Steve Johnson bending everyones arm! After my 'beginners luck' 2nd in class at Accrington, I was hoping that I would come no-where in today's event which would give me the incentive to call it a day & concentrate on more sensible things like our normal events. Unfortunately, I've done it again and got another 2nd in class, so it looks as though there's nothing for it but to enter the next AutoSOLO at Bolton M61 Services on 11th Feb & see if I can get this daft, but utterly brilliant sport out of my system! Anyone going to join me? www.anwcc.org/regs-070211.pdf Is this the most Motorsport fun that you can have for twenty quid?
