Autosolo? Well reader do you know what one is? Sprintman does. It's like an Autotest, but doesn't involve reversing! An AutoSolo consists of all forwards timed tests on a hard surface. Speeds are low, all 1st & 2nd gear probably. Although there are no passengers it's not a memory contest as numbers and markers help you find your way around. Although modified cars are allowed, all competing vehicles have to be road legal and be driven to the event. It's ideal for your wife's shopping car. Better find a good excuse though! Competitors are divided into three groups, whilst one group competes, another marshals and the third takes a well-earned rest. This results in an action packed day for all. AutoSolos are relatively new to this country but have a large following in the USA. Accrington Motor Sports Club (that's CSMA backwards!) are trying to increase interest and are running one at Blackburn services on the M65 on 3rd December. What do you reckon? Sould we have an LMC team enter the next one .. regs at www.anwcc.org/amsc.pdf No reversing means it ought to be non-damaging on clutches and is suitable for small car based vans too... like Mr Holder's Clio white van! He's already entered by the way!

Hey, hey, we're off to sunny Blackburn! (Well I hope it is on 3rd December). The LMC team, so far, consistes of white van man (Roy) in his Clio van, Stuart in his (dunno what his wife's car is... is it a Punto?) Speedsport in his 1.25 Fiesta. Simon, you may be in for a shock this time.... just for once, smaller is better! Def not an event for the Scooby. It'll probably be all 1st & 2nd gear. Or at least I hope it will be. My Fester has only 75 hp under my right foot. Whatever, it will be fun. Anyone else feel like joining us? I believe it will start at 10am, & finish about 3.30 so you can get homew before dark! The entry fee goes up by a fiver on Tuesday so if you are thinking of having a go, click the link above.

I've emailed a couple of the Oulton Park / Tracksport crowd, it sounds like a fun day out. Are there any MSA license requirements?

Comp licence / helmet / fireproofs not required. It really is motorsport on the cheap. For those who haven’t entered an AutoSolo before it's like an Autotest, but consists of 'all forwards' timed tests on a sealed surface. It is intended for normal "shopping" cars. Micras, Minis, Fiestas, Clios....... all ideal ! You may even get in with a TVR, Westfield or Caterham, but it may be worth a phone call to their entries secretary to make sure! It's meant to be "bargain basement" motorsport. Amongst hatchbacks of various ages at their recent event at Bolton Services, there was a 2 year old Passat, an Anglia, a couple of Ford KAs, a 1.4 Golf, a Citroen Dyane... yes, anything goes!
Although modified cars are allowed, all competing vehicles have to be road legal and be driven to the event. All cars must be taxed & insured & have a current MOT, all of which will need to be produced at signing-on. And to keep costs down, every car must be driven to the event!

Ok, just done the form, comedy entry 535i sport. I have an 'M' badge which I shall be inverting and putting in front of the 535 badge, as no doubt that will be what most will be thinking on the day about the fool competing in the W535i barge.....

So that's 5 LMC members competing now! Anyone got a diesel something to give Roy some competition in his Clio van? He's the only diesel there so far, so at this rate he'll win his class!
You may have a chance yet Simon, as Stuart Tranter is in your class in his Ford Proble tow car. It may be quick when pressed into action at Aintree, but on an AutoSolo? We'll see.
There's only 1 car in the sports car class too. Anyone got a Caterfield?

Hey VFJ, you dont waste any time do you? Nice photo's & what fun we had despite the dreadfully windy conditions. Who are they? From the top....... -> Steve Price (Tigger) LMC in his 1.0 Micra (7th in Class B) Stephen Brown's 1.0 Micra (FTD) - a serious piece of kit Phil Scholes - 1.4 Peugeot 106 (5th in class B) Phil Scholes again Roy (White Van Man) Holder LMC- 1.9D Clio Van (3rd in Class A) John Harden LMC - Fiesta 1.25 (2nd in class B - 4th overall) "3 wheels on my wagon" Holder again Simon Broomhead LMC - BMW 535 (2nd in class C) proving that a big wide motor and 400+hp isn't really necessary in this game! What a hoot! This new type of motorsport just has to catch on. Anyone got a big carpark?

I did have an awful lot of fun though Might have been easier with 400+ bhp, the wallowy black car only has about 210- although it now weighs about 4 tonnes after the welding I had to get done for the MOT
